About Us

Joe Jenkins's book, The Slate Roof Bible, now in its 3rd edition and first published in 1997, sprang from the slate roofing trade he had developed over the years. The 3rd edition won 10 national and international book awards. Available on Amazon. Also available as an E-Book.

Our other websites include our corporate web site (Joseph Jenkins Inc.), our Traditional Roofing Magazine web site, and Slate Roof Central: your source for everything related to slate roofing. Jenkins maintained a slate roof contracting business in northwestern Pennsylvania from 1980 until 2015. His two sons now carry on the trade: Orion Jenkins (Jenkins Slate Masters), and Brent Ulisky (Ulisky Slate).

Jenkins founded the Slate Roofing Contractors Association of North America, Inc. in 2005 (SlateRoofers.org) of which he is currently Executive Director (2020). The SRCA is a member of the International Federation for the Roofing Trades and an Affiliate Member of the National Roofing Contractors Association.

Team Bio:

personel bio picJoe Jenkins

has worked on slate roofs since 1968. He started his own contracting business in 1970 and began specializing in slate roofing in 1980. He had worked on over 1000 slate roofs before writing the first edition of the Slate Roof Bible in 1997. Jenkins is currently executive director of the Slate Roofing Contractors Association of North America, Inc., a non-profit, international trade association. Jenkins's work as a slate roof consultant, especially in litigation support, has made apparent the need for education and training on behalf of slate roof installers. Do it right and stay out of trouble!

Craftsmen with specific trade skills will be conducting workshops and training classes, primarily with flashing situations such as box gutters, chimneys, flat-lock, soldering, and sweep seam situations. We intend to develop additional workshops, seminars, and classes over time, including presentations for architects, home inspectors, insurance adjustors, and property owners.
